Why not just use a shared album?
A shared album shrinks your photos
Apple's shared albums re-encode photos to 2048 pixels on the long edge and video to 720p. Framed keeps the file the camera made, untouched, and that is the file everyone downloads.
A group chat needs everyone's number
Eighty guests means eighty personal numbers handed to strangers, so at most events nobody makes one and the photos end up nowhere. A code on the table asks for neither a number nor an account.
Neither of them is on the wall
A shared album is a folder somebody has to go and open. This is on the television in the room, filling up as the evening does, which is what makes the next person want to add theirs.
Apple's limits are taken from Apple's own documentation (support.apple.com/en-us/108916): 2048px long edge, 720p video, 5,000 items, 100 subscribers.
Questions that actually come up
Do my guests need an app or an account?
No. They point a camera at the code, the page opens, and they choose photos from their camera roll. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for, and no phone number given to anyone.
How many guests actually upload?
Honestly, a minority. Often around one in ten, with one or two people contributing most of it. That is our estimate rather than a measurement of your event, and it is still far more than reaches you today, because today those photos reach nobody.
Do I have to pay again to download the photos?
Never. You pay once, before the event. The archive afterwards comes with no conditions attached, and on the paid plans every guest can take it too.
How long do the photos stay online?
The plan says how long they are kept. You can download everything at full resolution at any point, and what you have downloaded is simply yours — it stops depending on us.
Can I control what appears on the screen?
You can take anything off the feed and the wall at any point, and put it back if you change your mind. The full archive is yours to download, and only yours.
What if the venue wifi is bad?
Uploads queue on the phone and resume on their own, including after the phone locks in somebody's pocket. It is the most common way an evening like this quietly fails, so it is the part that got the most work.
